My column 12-01-2025
Time flies so fast! Today is already 12th day of 2025. Even though I am not doing anything in particular, by the time I realise, half the day is gone. I am still that old fashioned guy who likes to read physical newspaper. But it so happens that sometimes I read threee-four day's newspapers together. Not that it matters since nothing new seems to happen everyday.
I read with interest that a convicted felon is going to be the President of the most powerful nation on earth. I also read that Elon Musk, one of his'chosen one' is fighting depression and drug addiction. Outgoing President pardoned n number of people in his sunset days including his own son. Unfortunately, Trump cannot pardon himself! And here in India we are crying that convicts like Rahul Gandhi and Lalu Prasad are roaming free.
Subrato Kumar Roy of Sahara fame, swindled small time investors from villages to the tune of who know how many lakh crores, lived a royal life till his death, and never paid for his crimes. Harshad Mehta ang Telagi did, but there are a section of people who believe that they were good persons. The real beneficiaries of stamp paper scam are still living life of ultimate luxury. People are killed in broad daylight over petty things. Small girls are raped and never get justice. Political killings are happening everyday but the real culprits are never ever caught, even though their identities are open secrets.
We are always more worried about building memorials but not roads. We are beautifying roads with LED lamps but the potholes go un-noticed in their garing lights. The stupid movies like Pathan, Jawan, Singham 1 to 100 and their retrns, Pushpa 1 to infinity collect thousands of crores of rupees but we do not have money for welfare schemes. And out of whatever money spent, collected from taxpayers, how much goes into the pockets of the politicians and contractos, is anybody's guess.
After becoming the CM, first act of Devendra Fadanvis was to visit Gadchiroli disrict. This act was praised by even his staunch opponents. To understand the reason behind this, please watch a movie, Bastar:the naxal story. Based on true events, this movie retraces the history of naxal movement, depicts the atrocities committed by them on hapless indian tribals and talks about the nexus between indusrialists who are after the the mineral wealth in the so caled naxal belt stretching across the length of the country, the foreign powers, the so called intellectuals living in India, the greedy politicians, the NGO's who channel foreign funds to keep the pot boiling and corrupt or inefficient judiciary. You can get this information by reading material availble in books, internet or old newspapers. But who READS these days!!! So intstead, watch the movie and you have all the information in two and a half hours flat! Of course, the so called intellectual will say all this is propaganda, but it is upto you to decide.
This is my second column in the last few days. So happy reading. You also have a choice of ignoring it altogether! It is a free country, at least the last I checked, after all!
